The Proposal

The night started with Jason inviting me over for a dinner. It’d been a while since he’d cooked for me (since he had been in Italy), and the food alone was enough to get me very excited. But I’d heard that he might be cooking up something more…


The first course was a beautiful salad: Buckwheat (aka “micro greens”), lotus root, dikon, olives (a special kind that I can’t remember right now), raspberries, olive oil, and a fantastic wine and balsamic reduction.


Then, he followed that with another completely original creation. Steak topped with cherries in wine and whiskey sauce, served with chopped sweet potatoes and shiitake mushrooms wrapped in swiss chard. The wine was an award-winning Australian Shiraz.

Isn’t that incredible talent? Everything was even more delicious than you could imagine. Of course, I loved it that Jay designed these dishes specifically for me. They were perfect.

Finally, Jay brought out desert: fresh peaches. I never did get to eat them, though, because after a short pause he pulled out a ring and proposed! How can I describe this moment? Intense, genuine, loving, excited… perfect! We’re so happy to be engaged!
